This is a rare tin , as well as being a very large one, which was made to contain biscuits.

It was produced and issued by the Co-operative Wholesale Society in Dudley, England.

It was made to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) on 12th May 1937.

As confectionary / biscuit tins go - it is sure one show-stopper.

The exterior is in fairly good condition, with no major scuffs or losses - however, the interior has quite a lot of old rusting - so would make it unsuitable for food storage today (unless you lined it with tin foil) - but it certainly would look fantastic on display. Some shallow dents to the lid - not obvious unless on close inspection - and not interfering with the decorations.

The lid which features portraits of King George VI and the Queen Mother, with little inserts below, showing images from the Royal Coronation. The portraits of the King and Queen are surrounded with a very fancy decorative border.

Around the side is a selection of fine views of Royal Palaces and a colourful array of flags of the Commonwealth. The buildings depicted include Westminster Abbey, St James' Palace, Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace - there are also crests and flags for the Commonwealth countries interspersed in the design on the side.

A very rare storage tin - and of course an exceptionally large size.

It measures 10 inches in diameter and with a height of 5 1/4 inches.

A fabulous display piece - and great for an old fashioned sweets shop - or perhaps for a collection of Coronation memorabilia.

In good condition given that it is now 80 years old

Priced to take into account both its relative rarity - as well as the slightly shabby condition of the interior:
