This is an interesting ethnographical item - an old Naga Ceremonial Helmet.
It is one of two similar Burmese ceremonial helmets that I have in my collection.
I have previously listed some brass necklaces - and two swords - these helmets came to me from the same collector.
Both my helmets are in excellent condition with no losses or damages - and lots of embellishments to the original woven helmet section - I have taken lots of images for your inspection. This one has two tusks (made of shaped hide) at the lower rim - it has scarlet-tinted goat hair - and original black and white feathers to the top of the helmet. The helmet is cone-shaped. The tusks purportedly indicate that the owner has killed a wild boar,
The woven rush of the helmet is nice and clean with no tears or losses - and the red colouring is nice and vibrant with no fading. They are currently stored at home with me in a chest - to keep dust and light from them.
These old Burmese tribal pieces are harder to find - this is reflected in my asking price. They look fabulous on display. They are not modern reproductions - and have a bit of age to them - please see my other Naga pieces - which are now sold. This one is probably 1940s / mid-20th century in date.
A similar helmet - perhaps less elaborate than this one - is in the collection of the Horniman Museum in London (Object No. 17.8)
This one is a very fine example and this is reflected in my asking price for it.
