Nicholas Mosse was initially trained at Harrow in England. He moved with his wife Susan to Ireland in 1976. They had a shared love of nature and botanical imagery. They established a small pottery in a shed on the Mosse family land at Bennettsbridge in County Kilkenny - this family business was called Nicholas Mosse Pottery. They are still based there producing fine ceramics household and tableware decorated with rustic spongeware patterns. These mugs are always most attractive and of the highest quality.
On offer here is a pre-loved, but as new large mug. It is decorated with spongeware patterns of pears all around the middle of the mug. There is in the bands above and below a wee yellow checked pattern. The interior is a pale mustard yellow and this colour is picked up on the foot outside. I love the sweet little impressed flowerhead on each end of the handles.
This is the larger size of mugs produced by Mosse. It is 3 3/8 inches in height (8.5 cm) and has a diameter of 3 5/8 inches (9.2 cm).
My mug is in perfect condition, lovely and clean and a nice size for both display and regular use.
