This is an unusual Italian glass cat. It is made of opalescent glass with opalescent white and caramel glass - to suggest the colour of the fur of a Siamese Cat.
I think that it is a work by Archimedo Seguso - but I am only going to attribute it to him on my listing - as it has no original label or etching signature. The lack of vintage Murano stickers if reflect in my price. Nevertheless, it is a beautifully made mid-century glass cat.
However, the cat on a stylistic basis is unique but similar to other Siamese Cats made by Seguso. My one does not have the usual small slit eyes as more often seen on his cats - but little button eyes and nose that are less frequently seen on other cats by him.
The colour used on this model is very subtle with an opalescent caramel colour which changes to a grey shade on the head and then to a pale grey shade on the ears. This is a tricky effect to achieve, and one often applied to animal models in the 50s and 60s by Seguso, such as cats and rabbits..
The cat has been hand-blown and there is a polished pontil mark on the base, as photographed. It is in perfect condition with no damage.
Dimensions: the overall height is about 7 1/2 inches. The width is 4 3/4 inches and the depth (including the curled tail is 3 1/2 inches. The weight unpacked is 900 grams.
