This is a hard to find paperwork. It was a special issue released by Caithness Glass in the year 2000 and is number 170 / 250.
It is a very attractive weight. The ground is black and deep (with a depth of about an inch). There is a beautiful peach-coloured winter rose in the centre. This is a fine and carefully observed bloom. It has bright green leaves and little spiky thorns on the stem. There is a border of millefiori canes around the edge of the weight - and at the top there are three little coloured canes which read: 100 (as photographed).
The 100 number refers to the 100th Birthday of the Elizabeth Bowes-Loyn, the Queen Mother - who was 100 years old on 4 August 2000. So this was a special commemorative piece made to celebrate this event. The weight has a cut-away section so that it can be put on display on its side. This is quite an unusual feature on a Caithness weight.
It is in generally good condition - the dome has no scratches - and the weight has no chips. There is one very tiny (1 mm) and very light scratch near the base of the cut-away edge. You really have to turn the weight to the light to see it - and it is certainly is not visible on display. It is noted here for accuracy. Please, don't let this put you off this rare and beautiful weight. Any white marks on my photographs are not on the weight - the dark ground is very reflective and these are just bright reflections.
It is a nice large size with height from base to crown measuring 2 3/4 inches and the diameter is 3 inches. It is 675 grams in weight.
