This is a pretty vintage paperweight by Caithness Glass.
It is signed around the base: Strawberry Blossom and with the edition number 30/100. So a rather hard to find weight from a smaller series edition.
It is a larger and quite stunning weight. The base colour is clear - and this makes the lampwork decorations look like they are floating in the middle of the paperweight. The lampwork inclusions consists of a little red strawberry and a delicate white and yellow strawberry blossom. There are also some lovely dark emerald green leaves. The central design is surrounded by a single ring of tiny millefiori canes. The cutting of the facets seems to create an optical illusion that there is more than one ring on the weight.
Around the side of the weight there are six circular polished facets and on the top of the paperweight there is a viewing facet. The base is an engraved star - with a multitude of points, as photographed. It is not signed by William Manson (many of his weights for Caithness are unsigned). He did do lots of similar weights with strawberry decorations, and I am sure that this is a Mason weight and am dating it to around 1992. The inscription on the base / side of the weight is his very small neat hand.
It is a fabulous weight - and looks amazing on display. It is listed at a fair price. This takes into account the complicated design, its excellent condition and the small edition size.
