This is a cute little miniature Staffordshire figurine / spill vase.
It is a genuine 19th Century example dating to the 1850s.
It is in good antique condition with a tiny area of restoration to the orange rim at the top of the spill section - I have reduced the price by £10 to take this into account.
It is a spill vase - which you would have put on your mantlepiece or in the kitchen and you would have popped long tapers or spills to light lamps and fires etc into. The spill container takes the form of a tree stump to the left-hand side - and which is painted with a bright orange interior. The spread of spills would have resembled the branches of the tree when on display.
This is a much harder to find and smaller example.
The spill vase shows two little figures who are standing on a raised bank and balance on a tree trunk. There are little pretty bits of lilac colour bocage applied around the figure. On the base to the front is a little deer.
I have three of these in my online store - the only difference seems to be in the different colours of the figure's costume. The price quote here is for one figure only.
This one has a red and green stripes on the dress of the lady - and the gentleman has green coloured breeches and an orange jacket. The bocage is a peppermint green colour.
Overall height is 6 1/2 inches - with a width of 4 i1/4 inches and a depth of about 1 3/4 inches.
Weight: just over 350 grams.
In good antique condition - with no chips or restorations.
