I have three of these unique and rare early 1950s illustrations for children's books.
They have been painted with gouche / thick watercolour paint and the image has ten been mounted onto card. It comes with the black and white image of how the original drawing was made into a black and white image for publication.
All three of my images featured vintage seaside motifs. They are being sold unframed - and would look great with a new window mount and frame - and hung in a child's bedroom or in a hallway in a seaside holiday cottage. They are one-off pieces - and you wont find another one like them.
They are all unsigned and have a naive quality to them - which just makes them all so sweet.
This one features in the foreground, a girl and boy playing with a large red and yellow beach ball. A little black dog is in-between and joins in the game. Some seaweed, a starfish and rubber ring lie on the beach. Nearer the shore there is a man seated in a deckchair reading a newspaper. To the right hand side is a little figure in the rowing boat - and on the horizon and paddle steamer.
It seems to have been reproduced in black and white for publication - but I have no further information on any publication the image might have ultimately appeared in.
They are in fairly fine vintage condition - there is some little bits of spotting on the black and white reproduction print and a little marking on the colour one (please examine my photographs carefully)- but given they are working images etc - this is quite acceptable.
I have taken lots of images for your inspection.
Dimensions: The image size is 28 x 20 cm.
The works will be sent to you with Royal Mail Recorded. Any excess that you might pay in the postage will be refunded to you.
I just love these wee works - had them many years now before deciding to list for sale. It was a hard decision.
