I love this lovely vase. It looks fabulous on display and sadly it unmarked.
I am sure that this is a moon or pebble vase made at Tremaen Pottery in Cornwall by Peter Ellery in the 1970s. I have had a smaller similar example of a pebble vase by him in the past - which was also unsigned but had a little paper Traemaen label on it.
The shape is reminiscent of his table lamps, which I have also sold in the past - so I am quite familiar with his work.
It also reminds me a little of my marvellous art pottery bowl in my store - made by another Cornish pottery, Jason Wason (although his works is often stamped with his signature JW mark). The muted brown and coffee colours and the polished texture and sophisticated modelling are central to his work.
Regardless - it is a very fine piece of vintage British Art Pottery or Cornish Studio Pottery, It is more of a sophisticated piece of modernist sculpture than a vase. It is very tactile - and like a beach pebble, you just want to rub its smooth surface between your hands.
It is a nice size for display. It is 7 inches in height and is 5 inches wide - with a depth of about 3 3/4 inches.
I have taken oodles of images for your inspection. I will simply price and list this as a piece of 1970s Cornish Studio pottery. If you have anything that you would like to add to my attribution ideas - further information would be most welcome.
Perfect condition - with no damages.
