
This is a pretty open sugar bowl by Foley China. These wee bowls were made in the 1930s by E. Brain & Co, Foley China. The pattern is called Silhouette. The Foley Mark on the base of was used in the 1930s.
E. Brain & Co, Ltd were manufacturers of porcelain at the Foley Works at Fenton, Stoke-Upon-Trent from 1902 - 1963. The company specialist in bone china and breakfast wares of high quality and always with good design. Much high quality “hotel ware” china made in the early 20th century was specifically designed and produced for use by shipping lines on the great ocean liners.
My bowl has a dominant lemon yellow centre with a black and grey printed decorative band and this colour scheme is similar to that used on other Foley tablewares of this time. The grey printed image shows courting couples in black silhouette walking in a romantic woodland. The wee bowl is in good condition with no chips or cracks.
Dimensions: The bowl is 3 inches in height and has a diameter of 5 1/4 inches
