This is a very fine hand-painted early 20th century Bough pottery tobacco jar.

It is just so pretty - too good to be used to store tobacco in - so you could really consider it a little storage jar or canister.

This is an attractive little pot has its original metal fitment on the lid, as photographed. There are lovely blue, green and plum coloured organic shapes all around. Very Art Nouveau abstract in form and typical of Bough Pottery decoration.

This fabulous pot has been beautifully decorated by Elizabeth Amour, as initialed on the base.

It probably dates to the late 1920s or 1930s.

It is certainly an interesting piece of Bough - one for the more specialist collector. Works by Elizabeth are not so common - neither are Bough tobacco jars.

The height of the tobacco jar is 4 3/4 inches - and the diameter at the widest point is about 5 1/4 inches.

The weight unpacked is 800 grams.

In excellent condition with no damages and certainly a very eye-catching piece of Scottish Art Pottery.

HISTORY: Bough Pottery was founded by Elizabeth Amour in the 1920s. They specialized in decorating blanks - which they bought in from pottery companies in England and Scotland (many from Maling Pottery, Newcastle).

This beautiful lidded pot is a rare one - and it was made by Elizabeth's brother, Richard. He lived from 1900 to 1949.

Interest in Bough pottery has been of particular interest of late - and my asking price here reflects this renewed interest in the pottery as well as the relative rarity of this piece and the quality of the painting. It is certainly of museum quality.
