This term means that they are "floral" and feature patterns made up of tiny flowers - that have been all hand-painted on the glass using a thin glass cane - this is now held over a flame so that the glass all melts together. The decoration on each little bead a very labour intensive - and they can really be considered miniature works of art. At this level - they are created by some of the most talented glassblowers in Venice.

Each bead on my necklace has been created one at a time and the intricate layering, tiny raised details and hand decoration are similar to the piped icing on a wedding cake (hence the nickname). It dates to around the 1930s.

It takes the form of a semi-nude lady (very tastefully modelled!) or nymph who holds aloft a large white opaque ribbed glass globe shade. She kneels on a rocky base with a draped cloth covering her modesty. The base is a square-shaped one - which is rarer than the variant with the round base. I love how her body twists and this gives a feeling of movement to her form.

She is a fine piece of classic European Art Deco design - and it wouldn't look out of place in a Poirot-inspired interior.

The lamp has a nice shiny chrome bulb holder with an on-off finger switch - and it has a chrome gallery on top which holds the glass shade in place, all as photographed.

It has recently been re-wired with a new chrome gallery, modern bulb holder (for standard B22 bayonet bulbs) and long white cloth electric cable to that it is safe and looks good on display.

The overall height including ball shade is 18 1/4 inches (46.5 cm). It dates to the early 1980s.

It is a very heavy crystal glass plate warmer - or tealight candle holder. You would pop a little tea light candle in the center - and use the glassware as a simple candleholder - or you could choose to sit a little oven-proof dish on the top of the glass - and the candle would keep your plate etc hot and ready to serve.

It is a more unusual example in that it is more amorphic in shape - and not so geometric.

It is made by the German company, Glasdesign Georgshutte.

Dimensions - the height is 2 1/2 inches.
