This is a fine and collectable piece of British vintage studio glass by Siddy Langley.

It is signed to the base, as photographed. It is dated for the year 1981.

The bowl is simply stunning. I love the globular shape - and the lustre glaze on the exterior is so beautiful.

The exterior has a blue iridescent shade all over like the sheen on a peacock feather. It has little thin ribbon trails rising vertically with little ochre yellow shapes at the top rather like lily pads. I think that Langley has probably been looking at the stunning water lilies oil paintings by Claude Monet for inspiration.

The interior of the bowl/ vase has a hint of purple colours in the glass - and the polished base is an opaque white tone - the signature is on the lower wide just about the polished base section. It must have taken a long time and great skill to have made this piece.

The iridescent finish also reminds me of pieces made by John Ditchfield.

It is a more unusual handmade piece early 80s piece by Langley and now 40 years old - it is highly collectable, and made when she was working with Layton (please also see my paperweight in my shop by Layton with similar sophisticated glazes).

Siddy Langley is one of Britain's finest glassblowers. She embarked on a three-year apprenticeship under Peter Layton at the London Glass Blowing Workshop in 1979 and then continued to work with him for a further five years. In 1987, she opened her own studio in Maidenhead, and ten years later moved to her current studio at Long Meadows Studio, Plymtree, Devon.

Siddy fashions each piece from molten glass incorporating metals such as gold, silver, and tin. Each signed and dated piece is unique.

A lovely large piece of studio glass - measuring 5 1/2 inches in height and 5 3/4 inches in diameter. It is a substantial piece and weights 950 grams unpacked.

As a special one-off piece, this is certainly of design museum quality - and listed at an appropriate price.

Posting only in the UK. It will have to be sent with Royal Mail Special Next Day delivery to make sure that it is fully insured in transit. This will cost £10 and be applied to your order at the checkout.
