This is a rare pencil signed colour lithograph by the celebrated artist, Fred Ulman.

It is a very minimalistic composition and shows a couple of white houses located on a dark black hillside - which are illuminated by the light of the moon which shines down a vivid blue sky.

I cannot find another impression of this work - and it is simply signed in pencil and has no edition number - so possibly now a sole survivor. The rarity of this print by Ulman is reflected in my asking price.

It is beautifully presented with a fresh window mount and framed with a simple oak frame ready to hang on your wall.

HISTORY:
Uhlman was born in Stuttgart, Germany. He left Germany for Paris in 1933 and began painting there as a self-taught artist. In 1936 he moved to London, where he married, and soon established his reputation as a painter. Although he lived in London, he spent summers in the Croesor Valley, Gwynedd, Wales.

He held his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Le Niveau in Paris in 1935, and in London, where he exhibited at the Zwemmer Gallery in 1938. From then on Uhlman exhibited regularly in one-man shows as well as mixed exhibitions throughout Britain, a full retrospective held at Leighton House in London in 1968. Uhlman was also a collector and built up a major collection of African art which he bequeathed to the University of Newcastle.

Uhlman’s work is represented in many important public galleries, including the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the British Museum in London. His portrait by Kurt Schwitters is in the collection of the Tate Gallery in London.

UK Postage with Parcelforce24 will cost about £14. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
