This is a very quirky old novelty metalware item.
It is a bronze / brass match holder or spill holder which takes the form of a little hiking hare or a rabbit.
He is probably made about the 1940s (possibly earlier) - and is very nicely made.
He is dressed in little hiking shorts and a crisp shirt, a little messenger bag is across his chest. He carries a long stick made of a tree branch. I love his little furry lower limbs and feet.
On his back he carries a tall basket - this is open at the top and this is where you would keep your matches or long tapers in for lighting candles or gas items in the house. He might also stand on a desk in a den.
He is certainly an unusual item - and something that you do not come across every day. This is a great item to add to your collection.
The rabbit figure stands on top of a flat circular plinth. As you can see from all my photographs - he is very nicely modelled.
Dimensions: Overall height is 6 inches and the diameter of the base is 3 inches.
