This is a late 1970s commemorative paperweight - it was a presentation item from BP. It is cubed shaped and each side measures 2 inches.
The paperweight is made of clear resin with one side printed with the BP shield logo and the words North Sea. On the other side - we have another BP logo and also the logo for the Standard Oil Company (Ohio).
The original Standard Oil company was based in Ohio. The company entered a joint venture with BP in Alaska during the 1960s. Such joint ventures eventually lead to BP's gradual acquisition of Sohio, completed in 1978 when BP renamed Sohio to BP America.
This weight might have been issued as a commemorative of this acquisition in 1978. Sealed inside the center is a drop of oil, as photographed.
It is 5 cm square and in excellent condition. The Perspex is nice and clear with no discolouration. There are no scratches or chips - as good as the day that it was made.
It is a rather rare survivor and this is reflected in my asking price.
I have another Hess Oil one for sale on my site - postage for the two together would be capped at £4.95. Each one would cost £4.95 as separate sales with Royal Mail Recorded Post. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
