This is a stunning vintage Scottish Caithness Glass paperweight.
It was made in 2003 by the Caithness glass designer Alastair MacIntosh. It is from a limited edition produced for the Caithness Collectors Club. It is engraved with the issue number No. 577 on the base.
It is a high-domed egg-shaped weight with a cut-away and polished viewing window to the front.
The weight has no base ground and is completely clear. The glass has a pinkish / lilac tone to it. In the centre is the shooting star, formed from a large air bubble with a purple flume on the top - it is skirted around the bottom of the inclusion with upright fingers of a dark cerise shade. Around the central inclusion, there are spinning thin ribbon trails of kingfisher blue.
This is such a stunning Scottish weight. I love the shape, colours and skill in making this one. It is in good vintage condition and looks great in your collection. It is a rather large one - so a bit of an eye-catcher.
The height 4 3/4 inches and with a diameter of 3 inches at the widest point. Unpacked it is just over 900 grams.
