This is not a little powder compact as such - but comes from the same world of glamour handbag accessories.
This is a large satin finish gold-tone oblong box - with an applied embellished diamante dollar sign on the lid, as photographed.
There is a hinge to one side and the opening catch to the other on the longest side.
When you open the box - you will see a little square shape mirror on the lid. Also in the lid is a little metal sleeve on a pivot hinge which contains a mini hair comb (original to the box). There is also a little money clip - with a faux money note in it. It is attached to a clear perspex lid section which lifts out.
The little paper note gives details of the maker of the item - it is called a Cache Kit by Menda.
Below in the case base section - there is a clear perspex divider which you might pop in little vanity items of your choice - little pots of lip gloss or rouge, original the round compartments were for little coins (probably would not now fit modern coins) stubby eye pencils and lip liners, perhaps hairpins etc - and of course lipstick.
It would not contain face powder - and this little vanity box might be used in conjunction with a separate and more simple gold-tone compact.
It is in excellent vintage condition. My asking price reflects its condition - often the exterior is scratched and the mirror is broken - and they are more often found Stateside and are not so common in the UK
It measures just under 4 inches across by 3 inches - with a height of an inch.
Nice storage item for a dressing table or for popping in a suitcase when traveling - it might make a handy little portable sewing kit - I am sure that the contents could be personalized for your own interests and wee "carry about" items.
