It is also inscribed with the number 23 - so I am assuming that this dates this pot to 1923.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe main body is coated to the bottom with a rich Royal blue colour - and the top has a white background with hand-painted fruiting vine - with bunches of plump, juicy black grapes. The neck and handles are a dark purple colour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe height is 6 inches - and from handle to handle it is 7 inches. In excellent condition with no damages.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBough Pottery was founded by Elizabeth Amour in the 1920s. They specialized in decorating blanks - which they bought in from pottery companies in England and Scotland (many from Maling Pottery, Newcastle).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis beautiful vase was made by Elizabeth's brother, Richard. ONE HAS BEEN SOLD \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese fine plates are made of bone china with gold gilt edges - they are a nice large size and are dinner plates with a diameter of just over 10 1\/4 inches. They are also so lovely they could be hung on your wall as display items. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design on each one is based on 17th-century engravings made by the celebrated Scottish printmaker, John Slezer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1693 the first-ever pictorial survey of Scotland was published by military engineer John Slezer. This was called 'Theatrum Scotiae', a volume of detailed engravings that shows us what important Scottish towns and buildings looked like over 300 years ago.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese four plates used details from one of the engraved prospects.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA group of travellers are shown on the road into Haddington (or 'Haddingtown') from the south, flanked by farmland. Central to the view is St Mary's Church, one of Scotland's largest late medieval churches, with its walled graveyard. It was built in the 1400s, it has long been known by the title 'Lamp of the Lothians'.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJohn Slezer's patron, the Duke of Lauderdale, is buried in the ruined part of the church. Still standing today is the bridge over the River Tyne, to the right of the church, and also the mill on the far left.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs you can, the plates are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks - there is no cutlery marks on the design - and these very rare china plates by Royal Imperial are certainly something special if you live in Haddington or are a fan of Slezer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStrange images for plates - they remind me a little of designs that might have been made by Fornasetti.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePostage will be with Royal Mail (Tracked), Small Parcel. It was common in the early 20th century for small Scottish potteries to have white ceramics supplied and decorators would paint the decoration on the blanks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis bowl has a grey coloured outer colour with a white ring running around - decorated with three little wine coloured stripes on sections of the band. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe interior of the bowl is decorated with large freely painted blue grapes and large leaves - it has a large loosely painted blue band on the interior rim. They have the same black enamel glaze and gold highlights - but instead of red clay, they are made from white-coloured clay. The pattern is typical of her work and is a variant design called Clouds. This one has pale lemon yellow and ochre shades - loosely painted abstract shapes in the round on the vase. They are quite Japanese in inspiration and execution. The glaze on the main body of the vase is a grey-tinged egg-shell or satin finish. It is very tactile. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer pottery was founded in 1969 - to this piece must date to just after this time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBarbara was brought up in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland, and in 1964 attended Glasgow School of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne of her largest commissions was a larger ceramic mural measuring some 7 feet in length and 4 feet in height - this can still be seen in the Ladies Waiting Room at Queen Street Station in Glasgow.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese fine stoneware pieces by Davidson - with a fine abstract pattern, slightly reminiscent of works by Alan Caiger-Smith.
