I love this vintage mid-century desk lamp - it is certainly a more unusual one and in lovely pre-loved condition.
It looks a little like a highly sought-after "Best" lamp - the swivel joint on the swan neck arm where it meets the shade is certainly very similar to swivel joints on those lamps.
The shade can be manoeuvred in a 360-degree turn - and moved up and down as well, as photographed - rather similar to the movement you might find on an anglepoise lamp of the same period.
The shape of the shade is quite unusual and very stylish. It is nice and shiny free from any major dents and scratches. It has its natural grey-green coloured patina to the inside of the shade.
The curved swan neck arm is also quite a stunning design feature in this one. It meets in the upstand arms - can be extended in height a little if required. It moves around too!
The base is circular with three steps, It has its original white resin push button on and off switch - this is working. The base is heavy one - so no danger of tipping the lamp over.
It has 2.5 metres of cable. I would certainly recommend that this is used with a low wattage lightbulb - it has a standard B22 bayonet fitting. The metal would have a tendency to get hot if you were planning to use a high wattage bulb.
As you can see from my images - the finish is a mirror-finish - and looks great in a modern industrial-chic interior. There is a tiny bit of wear to the chrome near the finger switch where it has been pressed on and off over the decades. One teeny weeny ding to the base - but nothing of concern.
Looked everywhere for a maker's name on this fine vintage designer lamp - but it is not there. Perhaps at some time in the past, the maker had a sticker on the lamp but this is long gone.
Taken lots of images for your inspection. These give a good idea of the intricate joint construction and the sheer quality of this old lamp.
I will certainly be sad to part with this one. Never seen another like it before!
Better give you some dimensions: Height from the base to the top of the arm is 19 inches. The overall length of the shade is 5 inches. The diameter of the shade is just under 4 3/4 inches. The diameter of the base is 5 1/4 inches.
