This one of four very fine etchings and drypoints currently on offer in my Iconic Edinburgh Online Store - all of them show images of heavy horses at work.

This one is entitled: The Ploughing Match I.

It dates to around 1921 - it is not signed in pencil (Soper did not always sign the margins of his etchings) - but it is without a doubt a fine and most beautiful impression. It was originally from the George Soper Studio and related through the Wildlife Art Gallery in Suffolk

It is sold framed and in nice clean condition - ready to hang on your wall.

Dimensions: image size is 16 x 27.5 cm. Frame size is: 40.5 x 50 cm.

Please note: The price quoted here is from the artwork only.

The frame comes free with this artwork. Any damage in transit to the frame / mount / picture glass will not be subject to any refunds, discounts or re-framing costs from us.

This stunning etching shows a farming scene and features a pair of heavy farm horses attached to a plough.

You can certainly see Soper's love of horses in his artworks - they are often sketched from life and on the spot. His depiction of working horses is perhaps the most complete and accomplished record of the life of these heavy horses ever made.

George Soper was an expert printmaker and conservationist. He gained most recognition during his lifetime as an etcher, and later as a wood engraver. Over a career spanning three decades, he produced more than 500 fine prints.

Postage price is UK postage only - with Parcelforce 48.
