Antique Large Fishwife and Fisherman with Baskets of Fish","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis is a very attractive pair of Victorian Staffordshire figurines - they date to about the 1880s.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThey are a genuine 19th Century matched pair - and both in excellent damage-free condition. There is a little glaze scratch on one figure to the rear near the bottom - it is very fine and I have photographed for your inspection. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThey consist of a Fisherman (a much rarer and harder-to-find model) and a Fishwife. They both carry a yellow cane basket which is full of herrings.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThey are collectible larger examples and they look fantastic for display in a period interior - both are about  13 1\/2 inches in height. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe fishwife is preparing to go out and sell a catch of fish - she shows these off in a shallow pale yellow basket - which she holds out in front of her. There are little \"silver darlings\" - or herrings all set out in her basket. To the left-hand side is the abstracted form of a yellow fishing net. The fishwife wears a bonnet to cover her long brown hair - it is tied under her neck by a ribbon - she has a full skirt with petticoats and aprons - and she has a lace-up bodice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eShe is echoed in her pose and costume by a fisherman - he also has a nice catch of fish. You do not find the gentleman figure that often - so a nice pair. I have the lady priced at £80 and the rarer fisherman is £90. The grand total is £170.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI love the fisherman's pink hat and blue and white striped hat. The yellow items both figures are carrying are stylised fishing nets. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere are little punched air vents on the back to the top of the wall section.
