Lion Hunt

This is one of a pair of fine Scottish silver menu holders which I have in my shop.

It has a hallmark for Hamilton & Inches, a prestigious fine jewellery company located on George Street in Edinburgh.

This one is hallmarked for Edinburgh with the date letter "l" (1892).

It features a scene from Greek mythology (as indicated by the two near-naked men dressed in togas to the right). My goodness - the lion has caught another one... and the third man lies under the lion's paws.

The menu holder measures 7.2 cm wide. The height is 3.7 cm. Weight 30 grams; but the value is obviously in the craftsmanship & making!

There are two little silver tabs or hooks on the back where the menu or place setting card fits into. This is held in an upright or angled position by moving the hinged semi-circular band on the stand, as photographed.

As you can see, the details are very fine, as you might expect coming from a company of the caliber of Hamilton & Inches.

Sold for £105.
