The wee boy is too young to join them and has been left behind. The group is seen disappearing into the distance. Feeling a little hard done by, the boy huddles against the wall of his house and starts to cry.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe little doggie gives comfort and jumps up and down looking for attention. He barks and says: Never mind... come play with me - you can be my special friend? \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAwe, how many times have we experienced our own sad moments - and been comforted by our own wee faithful friends and made to feel that everything is going to be alright.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe etching is by Eileen Soper who was famed for these delicate etchings showing scenes from childhood. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSoper was an etcher and illustrator of children's and wildlife books. She produced a series of charming etchings mainly of children playing and illustrated books for other writers, most notably for Enid Blyton on the Famous Five Books.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome of her illustrations of children and animals were used in a china series for children by Paragon China in the 1930s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer father was the celebrated printmaker George Soper - please see my other works by him in my \u003cspan\u003eIconic Edinburgh online s\u003c\/span\u003etore.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis fine print by Eileen Soper signed in the lower margin in pencil, as photographed.
