Stylish Cloudy Glass Bowl on Tapered Foot. 9 3/4 inches in diameter

At first glance you might not associate this stylish bowl with the Whitefriars Glassworks. It is, however, a piece of Whitefriars glass - dating to the 1920s or early 1930s.

The glass is called "cloudy glass" and this fine bowl was probably made by William Butler, or perhaps by Harry Powell.

Cloudy Glass is mottled in texture and opaque. The effect was created by rolling the glass onto a bench sprinkled with coloured enamels and then reheated in a smaller furnace. Whitefriars was influenced by the cloudy glass produced at this time at Monart in Scotland.

Cloudy colours included: Grey, Amber, Green, Blue, Pale Blue, Pink and White.

Dimensions: The diameter at the top is 9 3/4 inches. The height is 4 1/2 inches - and the diameter of the base is 3 inches.

Unpacked it is 1 kg in weight. It will have to be sent with Royal Mail Tracked in a medium-sized parcel. This will be applied to your order at checkout.

Probably more of a piece of modern glass for the specialist British Art Glass collector. Examples of cloudy glass are quite hard to find and relatively rare.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/1930s-large-whitefriars-glass-bowl-stylish-cloudy-on-tapered-foot-9-3-4-inches-in-diameter-british-755.webp?v=1785099007
https://www.iconicedinburgh.co.uk/products/1930s-large-whitefriars-glass-bowl-cloudy-glass-bowl-tapered-foot
