This is a fabulous and very rare little-lidded dish designed by Wolf Karnagel for Rosenthal Studio Line.
It was originally designed as tableware as a futuristic covered gravy boat - but the design is so fabulous and space-age in feel that it would even look good on display on a sideboard or display unit.
It is 5 3/4 inches in height and from handle to handle it is 6 inches.
It is made of fine porcelain - the main body colour is white and the lid has a little yellow dot on top of the raised knop section on the center - about the bottom of the rim is a band of blue. A ring of yellow runs around the top of the base section, as photographed.
No damages of any kind. You more often find these dishes decorated with a single yellow dot - so examples with these blue and yellow stripes are much rarer.
The designer Wolf Karnagel was born in 1940. He is perhaps best known for his minimalistic designs for Lufthansa German Airlines.
Unpacked the little pot is 400 grams.
Probably an item for a specialist collector of space-age Rosenthal porcelain.
My price reflects the rarity of this museum quality piece of mid-century German
design.
