It was designed in the 1990s by the Finnish glass maestro, Timo Sarpaneva (1926 - 2006).  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design is called Janus. It features two twisting long length air bubbles in the centre, they are contorted and are entwined in opposite directions; hence the name Janus. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJanus was a Roman god who kept the gate of Heaven. He was the god of beginnings and ends. He is often depicted as having two faces, since \u003cspan\u003ehe looks to the future and to the past. The Romans named the month of January (Ianuarius) in his honor. In January we look back on the last year and forward to the next.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMy candlesticks are from a small limited edition of 500 pieces. One is issue No. 129 and the other is 119. Both are signed Timo Sarpaneva Iittala \/ 1993. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe candlestick measures just under 8 inches (20 cm in height) and have a diameter of 2 3\/4 inches. They are certainly beasts. Each one weighs around 2 kg in weight.   \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBoth candlesticks or candle holders are in good vintage condition. There are a few wee scratches on the base. These are commensurate with age and the weight when you pick them up and put down on a hard surface over the years. The little friction scratches on the base are only mentioned for accuracy and are now even visible when the candlestick is on display. There are no inclusions in the glass; any white marks on them in my photographs are just reflections. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI have priced these at £165 for each candlestick. This is a fair price as they are now rather hard to find, especially in the UK. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach weight will be sent with Parcelforce24.
