This is a stunning late Victorian hand-carved mirror frame.
It is probably German in origin, carved in the Black Forest style.
The mirror probably was designed as a tabletop one - with a stand at the back but has recently been converted to hang on the wall.
This mirror and Black Forest frame are just exquisite - and as you can see from my photographs the carving is certainly superior in detail and craft.
The mirror frame is trompe l'oeil and carved from one piece of wood to resemble a picture or photo frame on an easel that has been made of oak - and this is covered with meandering leaves all around. Even to make look more "super real" little wooden pins have been carved as decorative details.
This is all superb quality - and will look fantastic in a period interior or as part of your collection of fine Black Forest carvings.
The mirror has its original wooden backing - but has sadly lost its original tabletop stand. There is now a little D-ring hook to allow you to hang it on your wall
Dimensions: from top to bottom of the wooden frame is 14 3/4 inches (37.5 cm). Width is 11 3/4 inches (29.5 cm).
Weight unpacked is 1.3 kg
As you can see from my photographs - beautiful carving, and the mirror and its frame are in excellent antique condition.
