It is one of a small group of antique figures made in France that I have available in the online Iconic Edinburgh shop. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eQuimper Faience (tin-glazed pottery) was produced near Quimper in Brittany in France. The pottery was first established in 1708. The decoration is all painted by hand.  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIt is an antique sculptural figure of the Virgin Mary \/ Madonna.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThis one is less colourful - and has a simple white tin-glaze with the pattern of the Virgin's dress picked out in blue - and little details of their features picked out with black paintwork. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eShe holds a chubby baby Jesus in her arms. He is dressed in a blue baby outfit. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eAgain, the figure is made of a light brown coloured pottery - and it looks like it has been made from pouring liquid clay into a mould. After the first firing of the figure - the sculpture is coated in a tin glaze - which is slighted grey-white in colour. The base is closed over and sealed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThis is certainly an attractive Quimper figurine; perfect for your display cabinet.\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe figure measures 10 3\/4 inches in height. The base plinth is 4 inches x 3 1\/4 inches. \u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eA genuine piece dating to the late 19 century \/ early 20th century\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIt is unsigned - so hard to assess which Quimper factory or maker was involved in the production of this one. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eAgain, it is in good antique condition with no major damages. There are a couple of wee chips to the crown of the Madonna, but nothing major - and quite acceptable given its age.
