This is a really attractive genuine late 19th century Staffordshire figurine.

It is a rarer example and is just exquisite.

The figurine takes the form of a tall slender lady - she has a plaid sash over her shoulder and wears a long floral dress. The flowers are blue and painted with great attention to detail.

She might be a shepherdess as she seems to be serenading a little black and white lamp who lies at her feet on a grassy bank. She holds a concertina in her hands.

There are little applied areas of bocage scattered here and there to give a more naturalistic texture to the rustic landscape.

She is a large size, coming in at 12 inches in height.

In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. I dont know how the little protruding ears on the little lamb have survived nearly 140 years - but they are still present with no damages.

There is routine crackling to the glaze all over - as you can see in my photographs. This is not evident when the figurine is on display - but it is commensurate with age - and to be expected in a genuine piece from the late 19th century.
