Rare Example and a Nice Large Size","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis is a very unusual and I think rare Carlton Ware item dating to the late 1960s or early 1970s. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is a nice large mug - it is 4 inches in height. The rim to the end of the large handle is 5 3\/4 inches. The diameter at the top is 4 inches. The diameter of base is just under 4 1\/2 inches.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou will certainly get a large brew in here - if you wish to use it - but it is such an unusual piece of Carlton Ware - you might wish to pop it on display instead.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a very rare Carltonware mug that dates to the late 1960s - when there is an interest - almost a mania- for adding earlier Art Nouveau adverts onto all decorative items and fashions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese Art Nouveau adverts were often seen on works by Portmeirion and Biba at this time as well.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis rare mug has Continental advertising images - on one side you have an advert for Eau de Botot - which is interestingly an old mouthwash (so perhaps appropriate for a mug!). The image is much more glamorous showing a beautiful lady contained within Art Nouveau patterns - and looking back to France of the 1900s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe other side is German in origin - it is for Adler Apotheke, Bremen - a German chemist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAgain - the image shows Art Nouveau styles for the 1900s - but adapted for a more contemporary 20th-century taste.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI have never seen another example of this mug and I would imagine that it is very hard to find now - especially in such fine condition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUK Postage will be with Royal Mail Recorded post.
