This is a very sculptural and beautiful blue porcelain bowl by Arjan Van Dal.
He was born in 1974 in the Netherlands - and graduated with a degree in Technology from Eindhoven University in 2001. In 2014 he switched career directions and set up his own ceramics studio in London.
Van Dal is fascinated by the interaction of colour and form. The makes very fine and delicate pots from white porcelain which is coloured with pigments or stains.
This bowl is just so exquisite - it has a traditional simple shape - but it turned into an artwork with the addition of the wide flattened rim at the top. The exterior is a subtle matt Teal colour - and the interior is slightly darker with a glossy finish. The bowl has been painstakingly sanded and polished to give it a very smooth and appealing tactile finish.
It is a nice larger size for this type of work by Van Dal - it measures: 4 inches (10 cm) in height - the diameter at the top is 6 1/4 (16 cm) and the diameter of the internal aperture is 3 inches (7.5 cm). The foot is 2 inches in diameter (4.8 cm).
It is a beautiful and unique piece of art pottery - with no damage of any kind. The quality of this unique piece is reflected in my asking price.
It is signed with the letter "V" on the base.
His work is much sought after and he has exhibited widely across the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, and China.
