I just adore this beautiful little studio pottery bowl by the British ceramic artist, Sara Moorhouse. It is signed on the base with incised initials SM.
Moorhouse was born in 1974. She studied for a Master's Degree at Cardiff in 2003. After three years working in a studio practice, she embarked on a PhD in March 2006. Her work investigates the links between spatial form in relation to colour theory.
She surmised in her studies (using conical forms) that many colours behaved much differently when seen in three-dimensional space than on a flat two-dimensional surface and that in inner bowl forms illusions can appear even stronger. She has exhibited many times at St Ives in Cornwall - and her colourful bowls are influenced by those found in Cornish landscapes.
Technical Information: Moorhouse's pieces are hand-thrown and turned. The geometric lines are applied by returning the bisque-fired bowl to the wheel and painted with ceramic colour by hand. A matt glaze is then applied to stabilize and enhance the coloured surface.
This Eclipse bowl is made up of very fine pottery - and decorated with three different matt colours - a teal blue, a paler sky blue and a tangerine orange. The pale blue colours appear to be very fine layers of coloured clay or paint - there is a tiny ridge all around the edges of geometric shapes.
This beautiful bowl - is from the Eclipse range. The colours have been influenced by the colours of the sea and summertime landscape. The china body is very thin, fine and delicate in nature.
DIMENSIONS: Height is 10 cm. The diameter at the top is 13.5 cm and the diameter of the foot is 3.5 cm.
UK posting only. It will be posted to you in the UK with Royal Mail Special Next Day Delivery - this will ensure it is insured in transit to you. This will cost £10 and be applied at the check out.
I have photographed this fine Moorhouse piece - beside a similar Van Dal bowl - also listed in my store.
