I love these little vintage handmade sailor dolls by Norah Wellings
The sailor has a little printed and on his hat which reads SS Argentina Star.
He is in excellent condition - with no losses or fading to his dark blue velveteen uniform.
His face is not pressed in and the colours on it are all nice and fresh.
He also still has his original Norah Wellings Label on his foot.
This wee chap is about 8 1/2 inches in total height.
I have taken a lot of photos of my cute wee fellow so that you can assess for yourselves his lovely vintage condition. My asking price reflects his really fine condition and the fact that the original Wellings label has not been lost.
Wellings initially made dolls for Chad Valley Dolls between 1919 and 1926. She left to form her own company in 1926 with her brother Leonard. Their company was called the Victoria Toy Works and all the dolls produced here were made from cloth. They were sold worldwide and often retailed to the tourist trade - most notably for the cruise ship souvenir industry. Norah's sailor dolls were made to be sold on cruise ships as souvenirs of a special trip - this one was obviously designed to be sold on the SS Argentina Star.
The ocean liner SS Argentina Star (Blue Star Line) travelled from Buenos Aires to London. Embarking at Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro.
My wee sailor will be sent to you with Royal Mail 2nd Class recorded post in a sturdy little box to make sure that no damage occurs to him on his land travels - and that he arrives in pristine condition.
HAPPY TO POST INTERNATIONALLY, PLEASE ASK FOR A POSTAGE QUOTE OUTSIDE OF THE UK.
