All my rare ornament watercolour studies (shown below) are for decorative borders on ceramic plates - and are specialist collector pieces.

They all date from around 1825 (King George IV or Regency period in England) and all came from the Gallery of Charles Plante Fine Art, Georgetown, Washington D.C., USA.

These designs hardly ever come onto the market and many are in specialist museum collections. This one has three designs mounted in one frame. The top one is a fantastic design with a branch with little berries on it and two little butterflies. The bottom two features more traditional floral decorations.

Being Scottish, I love the little thistle motifs on the bottom design. The design might be for a Royal service as the thistle are on a band with the Honi Mal Y Pense motto on it (often found on the Order of the Garter).

Each watercolour is painted n grisaille - a palette restricted to grey tones.

They are in excellent condition for little studies made about 200 years ago and have no fading or conservation issues.

The frame measures: 23.5 x 31 cm

As mentioned these design do not come up for sale very often, and are listed here at a very fair price.

Postage will be with Royal Mail Tracked parcel service.
