This is a stunning vintage and most beautifully made beaded bag.
It has exquisite glass lampwork beads all over, in a most intricate pattern.
I am not completely sure as the to origin of this fine old piece - but I think that it might originate from the Balkans - or is perhaps a fine example of Ottoman beadwork. The handle is certainly reminiscent of beadwork snakes made by Turkish and Eastern European Prisoners of War during WWI.
The bag is a lovely shape with highly decorative and stylised flower designs on each of the four sides which forms the structure of the bag. All floral motifs are contained in a large geometric star shape.
The bag has an unusual lime green patterned lining and with matching beaded fringing - a beaded end tassel with tiny coral additions and looped beaded carrying handle.
The main height of the body section is 20 cm. The width at the widest point on the neck section is about 15 cm. The long beaded handle is about 41 cm in length.
Beautiful condition, probably dates to the early 20th century - a specialist collector’s piece as reflected in my price.
This is probably one of the most beautiful beaded bags that I have seen - it is certainly not a modern tourist piece. My asking price certainly reflects the quality of this lovely piece of beadwork and its excellent condition.
