Paper Label

This is a lovely vintage Danish glass lamp. The design was the Danish glass artist Torben Jogensen (b. 1945). He initially trained as a mechanic before turning his attention to design. He graduated as a ceramist from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen in 1973

He also served as the head of glass department at the Danish Design School from 1973 - 1978. He set up his own glass workshop Jorgensen and Morch in 1971.

He was appointed as a glass designer at Holmegaard in 1977. He stayed with the company for more than 25 years.

Over the years he has designed fine art glassworks that often featured swirling fine undulating lines in the main body section. His work was often of angular form with op-art geometric inclusions and patterns. He designed a number of series such as Misty. Cassioeia, Apollo, Samoa and Skagen. His work has been on show in many exhibitions and is also in some important public collections such as The Danish Art Foundation, The Museum of Applied Arts, Copenhagen, The Museum of Applied Arts, Oslo and The National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, Japan

This stylish lamp was made by Holmegaard Glass and dates to the early 1980s. It is a semi-opaque ball shape with swirling spiral opaque black and white parallel trails. It reminds me of a large glass cat's eye marble. It is from the Colour Line / Misty range that Toben designed for Holmegaard in the 1980s and features in their 1982 sales catalogue. This circular shape is shown beside two taller pillar shaped ones from the Misty series. It is No. 45 and it retains its original Holmegaard paper label. There is the original "Colour Line" retail label on the base, as photographed.

Dimensions: The overall height from base to top of bulb holder is 12 1/2 inches (32 cm). The diameter of the glass body is 7 1/2 inches (19 cm). The glass making up the ball shape is rather thick and this adds to the weight of the lamp. Unpacked it measures just over 2.2 kg in weight.

The shape is rather space-age in form and the white colour would fit in perfectly with your vintage Scandi-modern furniture.

The colour is an attractive semi-opaque iwhite colour, much favoured by Holmegaard. The glass making up the globe is thick. There is a brushed stainless steel fitment at the top of the glass neck, from which the original white plastic bulb holder issues. The bulb holder is not for a tradition UK bayonet bulb - but for a continental bulb. You would find bulbs readily to fit this lamp in Ikea.. So the bulbs are easy to source in the UK.

The electric flex fits into the neck of the bulb holder.

This lamp is has a nice length of flex so that you can easily connect it to your socket. This one is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. It is certainly a very stylish Scandinavian glass lamp, and sold at a fair price.

It will be sent to you with Royal Mail Medium Parcel, Tracked.
