Winter Scene: Damstredet. Signed and dated 1987

This is a highly decorative 1980s Norwegian lithograph. It would look great in a Scandi-modern interior. It is always nice to get original Norwegian artworks to hang in your interior.

The artwork is an orginal lithograph signed, titled and dated by the artist on the bottom margin, as photographed.

The composition show Damstredet Street in central Oslo. The street is very picturesque and is famous for its well-preserved, colorful wooden houses dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is an inhabited, quiet area offering a glimpse into 19th-century Oslo, and it is often described as a "village within the city".

The artist has certainly capture the "olde-worlde" character of the area. It is a winter evening the snow lies on the streets and roofs of the houses. Trees are bare of any leaves - and a subtle glow is cast over the scene from a hanging lantern.

The print is in good condition - it is in its original frame with old clippings relating to the artist and the location on the reverse. It might benefit from being reframed - or getting a new backing board for the frame.

Dimensions: The frame is 45.5 x 35.5 cm. The image is 30 x 24 cm.

It will be sent to you with Parcelforce24. His prints reveal both his skill in the art of drawing and lithography. His subjects often feature naturalistic landscapes or street scenes with picturesque buildings. He tries not to include details of modern life in his artworks and his compositions hardly ever have people in them. He likes to concentrate on winter scenes, coastal landscapes, waterfalls or traditional houses. He like to use indirect light to create a glow to the scene and sets buildings in sharp shadows. The use of the lamp in this work is indicative of his use of a warm glow to bring out colours in the composition.

Thorjussen was born in Porsgrunn on March 7, 1942.
