It is entitled The Lovers. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe model was made in the Ukraine in the 1950s \/ 1960s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOn the base is the mark for the Polonne ZHK Factory. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe factory was located in the Khmelnitsky region of the Ukraine. The were a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eprominent Soviet-era manufacturer (1950s–1990s) known for producing, hand-painted porcelain figurines, animal sculptures, and decorative vases. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThese stylized figures were very popular items both for the more local Soviet market and also for export to leading retailers around Europe.The post-war Soviet figurines are much sought after. This one is in perfect condition with no damages of any kind.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe figures have a literary source and are said to represent the lovers Galya and Levko from Gogol's novel of 1831 \"The May Night\".  \u003cspan\u003eThe couple is depicted wearing the traditional costume of the Ukraine Region. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe height is about 28.5 cm. Weight unpacked is 1.1 kg\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA rather more common piece of Ukranian Pottery - and this is reflected in my lower asking price for this finely modelled piece.
