is a fabulous large vintage box - it has a certain bit of age to it - but it is difficult to be precise on dating old wooden boxes.
On a stylistic basis, it is the early 20th century - certainly no later than the 1940s / 1950s.
There is an old pen inscription on the base which has the date 1930.
It is made of a fine fruitwood - and as you can see in my photographs - it is in very good vintage condition.
Nice and clean inside and also without any issues to the exterior.
The interior is unfitted with no inserts or trays (as designed) - it is nice and clean with no cracking or staining. There is some time related spotting to the wood on the inside - as visible in my photographs - but this is commensurate with age.
On the inside it a sweet little label - which would have been on a gift tag dating to the 1930s or 40s - and the remnants of an old paper label for James Bourlet & Sons, who were prestigious picture framers, carvers and fine art packers. The font on the label again looks like it might date to the 1930s.
The box is hinged to the back - and the hinge is sturdy and without issue.
There is no lock (as designed).
Dimensions: the outer size is 14 x 11 inches - with an external height of 6 inches. The interior dimensions are 13 x 10 inches.
The box would make a great sewing box for storing threads and yarns - or just as an attractive and special box for keeping precious keepsakes or documents in.
It is very stunning and with all the decoration being done by hand - it is a unique and top quality item.
Sadly - due to the size and weight of this item - I would only be able to send it to UK addresses only.
