Published London April 1905; Includes Genuine Art Nouveau Lithograph

This is one a small series of extremely rare Edwardian magazines which relate to the history and process of artistic lithographic printing in Britain.

I have looked everywhere for other copies of this interesting publication without success - including specialist book dealers sites.

This one is Volume 1 No. 4 and it was published in April 1905 (at 119 - 125 Finsbury Pavement, London). Edited by Robert Hilton.

The cover is lithographically printed and is generic to all the issues - but printed in different colours.

This volume has lots of specialist advertisements relating to the lithographer's art and skills.

We have articles on the following subjects: The Modern LIthographer. Messrs WH Smith & Sons, Chromo-lithographic Business; Modern Printing Inks; Some Notes on the London County Councli School of Art; Images of lots of Early 20th Century Lithographic Presses; A Colour Art Nouveau Advert; Technical Questions; Planography: Aluminium and Zinc Plate Printing as applied to Lithography; and a good selection of trade adverts.

Sadly this issue does not have a Chromo Supplement lithograph as in my other publications - this is as issued and there is a wee insert from the publisher to explain that they had to omit it to meet publication deadlines! Some things never change! This is reflected in my price

The publication is softbound with printed paper cover - and stapled. Considering it is over 100 years old. It is in remarkable condition- only some slight rust marks from the staples - you won't find another like it. The staples on this issue are a little loose with it being a bit more fragile with loosening of some sheets - but generally fine condition.

Dimensions: 27.5 x 22 cm.

This is probably a volume for a specialist art library or specialist researcher or art collector - a very fair price.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/1905-rare-art-magazine-the-modern-lithographer-published-london-april-includes-genuine-nouveau-lithograph-vintage-933.webp?v=1790153056
https://www.iconicedinburgh.co.uk/products/rare-1905-art-magazine-the-modern-lithographer-published-london-april-1905
