This is a very rare and oollectable vintage Portmeirion jumbo sized cup - great for large bowls of hot chocolate in the winter.
It is from the Portmeirion series called Velocipedes - which features quirky early designs for bicycles.
This one shows a Water Tricycle. An Edwardian gentleman at the seaside - he is astride a three wheeled bike and is cycling on the waves. A wee sailing boat can be seen in the distance to the right.
It is a harder to lime green colour. It is 4 3/4 inches in diamater and has a height of 3 1/2 inches. It is in good condition with no damages. There is the black oval Portmeirion mark on the base, as photographed.
The old designs were often printed in black on plain white ceramics etc - but this one is a little rarer in that it is printed onto a bright acid green coloured background colours. This fascination with the "olden days" and the Edwardian era - was very popular with Carnaby Street style and were used very much at this time of Portmeirion products.
It is in pretty good vintage condition - with no chips or cracks.
