The artist of this work is Peter Dworok (b. 1950).

He was born in Nottingham and studied art at Nottingham College of Art and Design and then at Leeds Polytechnic Faculty of Art and Design.

After leaving college Peter lived and worked on the Isle of Skye and later Edinburgh where he exhibited his work widely. On moving back to Nottinghamshire, Peter was employed by Nottinghamshire County Council helping to establish Rufford Craft Centre as a centre for excellence in the applied arts.

Peter retired from his role at Rufford after working there for some 25 years and has recently moved to the beautiful Minster town of Southwell where he continues to paint and show his work.

His more recent works are stylistically very far removed from these early figurative sketches. Indeed, his recent paintings are more traditional works which often feature atmospheric Highland landscapes and scenes on the Isle of Skye. All his work continues to this day to show his interest in intricately rendered textured surfaces. They are highly sought after and fetch sums in the high hundreds when they come up for sale at his contemporary exhibitions.

I have three early 1970s works by this listed artist in my Iconic Edinburgh online  shop - they are all are rare early pen and ink drawings made by Dworok when he was living in Edinburgh in the 1970s.

They are all certainly very rare survivors from this period, and in themselves are all very interesting studies.

Each of these finely executed pen and ink studies all have a dreamlike, surrealist quality to them - and are skilled works full of minute attention to detail - you certainly would not get bored of these lovely original drawings - and indeed, you might never be completely sure of what the artist is illustrating in these strange studies.

This very busy drawing shows an owl in flight - his wings are fully extended and Dworok has taken great delight in picking out all the details of his magnificent feathers. It is night and a large abstract moon is seen in the sky behind the owl. He is out on the prowl.. and after the little field mouse - who hides away in the bottom left-hand corner. In the distance is a beautiful landscape - which I think might be a scene on Skye.

It is certainly a drawing of the early 1970s - and the large circle and geometric shapes remind me very much of advertising, illustrations and more especially logos used in marketing campaigns by the iconic fashion brand, Biba. I have no doubt that for his background, Dworok was looking at their graphics which look back to Art Deco and Holywood for inspiration.

This drawing interestingly dates from just after the closure of the original Big Biba store in 1975.

This unusual drawing is framed and measures 31.5 x 22 cm.

It is pen and black ink and signed along the bottom right-hand edge and dated 1976, as photographed.

In good condition with no conservation issues - ready to hang on your wall. Any out of place white flashes etc on my photographs here are just reflections as I had to photograph the drawings through the glass - and it was a bit fiddly. But the drawing is just all fine and dandy.
