scottish-arts-crafts-embroidered-and-laced-leather-work-ann-macbeth
1925 Scottish Arts & Crafts Design Manual. Embroidered and Laced Leather Work by Ann Macbeth. Second Edition

This is a rare little publication printed by Metheun and Co, London in 1925. It is a second edition , sold as issued.

It has a soft cover made of a plain buff colour of sugar paper. It has a little printed stick on label on the front cover, as photographed.

The cover is slightly shabby around the edges and at the top and bottom of the spine - this is larger than the book inside - so any nibbled tops and cuffs could be trimmed off easily to neaten the edges there.

The cover is clean and the book has no previous owner's inscriptions or scribbles inside.

The flyleaf has some minor spotting to it - again as photographed.

There are a total of 140 illustrations in the publication showing you how to make a whole range of items from leather etc.

The author of the publication is Ann Macbeth (1875 - 1948). She was was a British embroiderer, designer, teacher and author. He was an influential member of the Glasgow Movement, one of the Glasgow Girls, and an association of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

She also was an active suffragette and designed banners for the movement.

An interesting manual and guide - now nearly 100 years old. Great inspiration for more modern craft projects - where emphasis might be on more historical and traditional designs.

These wee volumes are now hard to find - and this one is on offer at a fair price given its nice condition and its appeal with Arts and Crafts design collectors - and collectors of items relating to the Scottish textile industry.

I will probably post it in a little sturdy box to keep it secure in transit - and send to the UK with Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. This will cost about £4.95 and applied at check-out.

Taken lots of images from this little manual for your inspection.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/1925-scottish-arts-crafts-design-manual-embroidered-and-laced-leather-work-by-ann-macbeth-second-edition-444.webp?v=1790136610
https://www.iconicedinburgh.co.uk/products/scottish-arts-crafts-embroidered-and-laced-leather-work-ann-macbeth
