This is a more unusual and collectable piece of vintage Caithness glass.
It is made using a similar procedure as Caithness paperweights - but this is an inkwell.
It is of bulbous form and has an internal cavity where the ink would be held.
The base colour is a rich inky blue colour and this running around the circumference a fine circle of white millefiori canes - which look a little like white sunflowers - in the centre is a thistle made from green lampwork leaves and a millefiori thistle head.
The thistle design is cleverly reflected onto the bottom of the internal inkwell reservoir section so it looks like there are two internal designs. It must have taken great skill to produce these inkwells.
The inkwell has a hinged white metal cap - which is again very good quality and well made.
Height: 2 3/4 inches. Diameter is 2 1/4 inches.
Unpacked it is 270 grams.
It is inscribed on the base: Caithness / Thistle / Scotland
In lovely condition with no damages.
An unusual addition to your Caithness glass collection.
