They were all made by Buchan Pottery, who were based at Portobello, near Edinburgh (now closed).  They all date on stylistic grounds to the 1950s. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir at two taller mugs with straight tapering sides; an another smaller one of a barrel form. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne tall mug and the squat ones have the word Sample painted on the main body section. One tall mug is without the lettering.  All pieces are in the attractive Brittany pattern. This features an attractive coloured apple surrounded by a quickly painted oval frame; on the other side there is a pear which is also painted in similar vibrant colours. There are three vertical blue lines crossed by blue spars at either side of the fruits. Despite being nearly 75 years old - it is suprisingly very modern in feel.   \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ones with the lettering are more special pieces. These pots would have kept a design sample for reference purposes to show potters and decorators what the final item should look like. These sample pieces could also be shown to prospective clients to show them a sample of what the items in their orders might look like before being made up.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy two matched mugs are about 4 inches in height. One has a slightly larger rim: this is 2 3\/4 and the other has a rim diameter of 2 1\/2 inches. All pieces are hand-made so any differentials are quite commone. The smaller jug is 3 1\/2 inches in height with a diameter of 2 3\/4 inches. The base is smaller annd measures 2 inches. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is reflected in my asking price.
