It takes the form of a large Staffordshire Pottery Lion. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe is recumbent and is shown lying down with all his paws tucked under his body. He is a rarer grey-coloured one; you more often find them in a russet shade. He also has little flicks of his original gold detailing here and there on his fur. \u003cspan\u003eThe model has a kiln-firing hole to the back of his head and a larger one on the base. \u003c\/span\u003eHe is rather primitive in form and making - but this is all part of his charm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe dates to the late 19th century, probably about the 1880s - and still has his original glass eyes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe is a genuine antique figurine and not a reproduction piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMr Lion is in pretty good antique condition and looks fabulous on display. Please, inspect all my images to assess full condition. The only issue of any note is the very fine and shallow hairline on the lion's face - and this is taken into account with my pricing of him.  This is quite acceptable on his fireside models - and perhaps caused by heat from the fire cracking the glass. He would originally have been part of a pair - and they each would have sat on the hearth beside an open fire as decoration - the Victorians were very fond of these heart lions. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe is a great model and looks fabulous in any interior - modern or classic. He is listed at a very fair price. I have previously sold a russet one for a bit more than this rarer grey one. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe width at the widest point is 11 inches. The height is 10 inches and the depth is 5 1\/2 inches.
