scottish-silver-1960s-penannular-brooch-with-inset-amethyst
1960s Penannular Brooch by Cook, Holland & Co. with Inset Amethyst. Traditional Design

This is a pretty later 20th-century cloak clasp or penannular brooch.

It is stamped on the reverse with C. H. & Co. (for Cook, Holland & Co) - who were based from 1953 - 1964 at Vyse Street in Birmingham.

The front is decorated with a knotwork pattern that looks back to finer earlier pieces. It has a Birmingham silver hallmark on the reverse - but the date letter is hard to make out, but it is probably a letter for the later 1960s.

It has some very attractive Celtic designs on the front and a purple stone that is inset onto the top of the pin.

It is in fine vintage condition - the pin is 4.5 cm in length and the diameter at the widest point across is roughly 4.2 cm.

It will be sent in a simple little card gift box. Being a later 20th-century Birmingham piece - it is listed at a lower price than a similar Scottish hallmarked one. It is a fair price for a wee decorative silver cloak clasp. It will look good pinned on a little black cap or hat - or holding a dark scarf in place.

The brooch will be packed in a slim sturdy box and sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked Postage. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF PENANNULAR BROOCH / CLOAK PIN:

Open the cloak pin so that the pin is pointing in the opposite direction to the hole in the ring.
Stick the pin through the cloth and then back out again so that the pin is held in place by the cloth.
Close the cloak pin all the way so that the end of the pin passes through the ring.
Turn the ring through 90 degrees.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/1960s-penannular-brooch-by-cook-holland-co-with-inset-amethyst-traditional-design-scottish-silver-jewellery-104.webp?v=1781475692
https://www.iconicedinburgh.co.uk/products/scottish-silver-1960s-penannular-brooch-with-inset-amethyst
