This is a lovely Scottish brooch made in the early 1990s by Malcolm Gray for Ortak.
The Ortak company was originally founded in the late sixties by Malcolm Gray in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. The company grew steadily to become of the UK's leading manufacturers and designers of fine silver and gold jewellery.
The beautiful brooch is a much more unusual Ortak design - and I haven't found another with this Celtic heart-shaped motif. It is a nice large size being just over 3.3 cm in width and 4 cm drop to the bottom of the cute little dangling Scottish seed pearl. The heart is made up of little plant tendrils with curl into the shape - and are so beautifully made with such fine attention to detail - a real quality piece.
Fully marked with Edinburgh hallmark and the date letter "S" for the year 1992. With tiny letters MG - the maker's marks to the reverse. The pin is a catch and loop.
Vintage Ortak pieces are now becoming highly collectable - and this one more so as it comes in its original presentation box - made of a brown flock material and the vintage Ortak logo on the cream silk lining on the inside of the lid.
Very fair price for this lovely Scottish silver designer brooch and certainly a harder to find design by Malcolm Grey.
Will be sent all cleaned and gleaming - ready to wear. I will pop in a simple little gift box for you.
