James's ducat was the first Scottish gold coin to bear a portrait.

It features a small Scottish gold coin inside - it reproduces an ancient Scottish coin a James V Gold Ducat - which dates to 1540.

The paperweight is made of a clear resin material and has a dark green ground. It measures 3 inches in diameter by 1 1/2 inches in height.

I have taken lots of images for your inspection. I thank him very much for this extra information. Valerie X

It transpires that a total of 50 paperweights were commissioned by Colby Gold plc. They were to be presented to shareholders. and company staff. They were made by ScotGold Products and each came in a gold embossed presentation box. The gold came from a 30-gram smelted button that was obtained from a test assay on Colby's Urlar Burn license just south of Aberfeldy. The deposit was never commercially mined. There is another one of these weights in the collection of Perth Museums.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0271/1902/6240/files/specialist-coin-collectors-item-novelty-paperweight-with-a-scottish-gold-replica-of-james-v-ducat-1540-777.webp?v=1781543159
https://www.iconicedinburgh.co.uk/products/specialist-coin-collectors-item-novelty-paperweight-after-a-james-v-gold-ducat-1540
